1         Definition:

A supernatural insight given by the Holy Spirit into the spirit world.

a         I Corinthians 12:10

b        The gift does not only discern evil spirits.

New Testament examples:

Every time someone gets a vision it is not the discerning of spirits in operation.

a        Acts 9 

As with all the gifts this one is given as an aid to the gospel.

II.       Gifts Of Power: These gifts all do something, they are the gift of faith, the gifts of healing, and the working of miracles.

A.       Gift of Faith:

1         Definition:

A supernatural surge of faith that allows the believer to know without a doubt that what he says or does will come to pass.

a         This gift gives the individual the ability to receive miracles.

b        Three kinds of

             1      Saving faith

2        Fruit of the Spirit

           

3         Gift of Faith




 

This gift is a manifestation that comes to help you deal with a situation that is usually of a crisis nature.

1         Acts 14:8-10

2        Old Testament examples:

 a        Daniel 6:16-17, 19-23

 b         Daniel 3:20-25

New Testament examples:

a       Acts 27:20-22
 

B.       Working of Miracles:

 

1       Definition: Supernatural ability given by the Holy Spirit by which the laws of nature are suspended, altered, or controlled.  

a.        Greek terms for this are "energemata dunameon".  

Inherant power, Something wrought something worked

2         Old Testament examples: a         I Kings 18:21-38

            b.         I Kings 17:1

            c.        I Kings 17:12-16

3         New Testament examples:

a         John 6:5-14  

b.        Acts 8:39-40  

c.         Acts 8:13

4         You do not have to have this gift to cast out devil - Mark 16:17-18.

C.       Gifts of Healing:

1        Definition: The Supernatural imparting of God's healing power to human beings.

a        Purpose: To deliver the sick and to destroy the works of the devil in the human body.

b         Gifts of healing (plural).

c         A person can be healed without the gifts of healing operating:

1         Isaiah 53:4-5, Mt 8:17

2        James 5:14-16 - prayer of faith




 

2. Why can't the Spirit filled believer go and empty out the hospital?

a        Unbelief - Mark 6:3-6

b        Ignorance.

c         Breaking the natural laws of health.

d        Sin.

e        Works as the Spirit wills - Acts 3:1-3.

3..How is the gifts of healing manifested:

a         Math 8:8

b        Using different methods of acting out faith.

1         Acts 19:11-12

2         II Kings 5:1-14 -

3         John 9:6-7

D.       Guidelines for operation in the inspirational gifts:

1        Build up yourself

2         You can do some checks when you feel you might have a message:

              a.       Are you in order?

               b.       Ask the Lord to give you an opportunity,

                c.         Will it edify, exhort, or comfort the body?

               d.       Does it line up with the Word?

3         There are times that you will know that the Holy Spirit is speaking without a doubt.

4         Avoid confusion.

5         Be in submission to the one in authority.




 

THE GIFTS AND MINISTRIES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Five Fold Ministry

I              Eph 4:7-16

A        The five fold ministry is appointed by Jesus.

1         Gal 3:28-29.

2         Math 20:1-16.

3         James 3:1.

B        Purpose of the five fold ministry - Eph 4:12-16.

1         Perfecting the saints.

2         Work of the ministry.

3         Edifying of the body.

4         To bring the body into unity.

5         To impart knowledge.

II        Apostle

A        The word apostolos means a sent one, a messenger, a delegate sent with full power of attorney to act for another.

B        The office of the apostle did not pass away when the twelve disciples died.

1         Gal 1:1.

2         1 Cor 4:6-9.

3         2 Cor 8:23.

C        Three kinds of Apostles

1         Original 12

2         Those apostles mentioned in the Word

3         Apostles of today.

D        The office of Apostle is the highest ministry in the church.

E        A person with the true call and power of God often is the last who will acknowledge it.

III  Prophet

A        Prophets in the Old Testament

1         The office of the prophet

2         2 Kings 2:2,3

B        Prophets were recognized in the Old Testament as the mouthpiece of God. 1         Test of a prophet in Deut 18:20-22, Deut 13:1-5.




 

C        Prophets in the New Testament:

1         A prophet in the NT is more of a forth-teller than a foreteller.

2         Eph 3:1-5.

IV       Evangelist

A        An evangelist is a publisher of glad tidings and missionary preacher of the gospel.

B        An evangelist had the ability to go into an area and bring about revival.

1         Acts 8:5-26.

2         Acts 8:26-27.

C        Philip.

D        An evangelist will usually have some or all of the power gifts operating in their ministry on a consistent bases - Acts 8:6-7.

E         2 Tim 4:5. Pastor

A        A pastor is a shepherd. In the Greek the word "poimen" occurs 17 times in the New Testament - Eph 4:11. 1         Math 9:36.

B        Duties:

1         Jer 3:15

2         Acts 20:28-30.

3         1 Pet 5:2.

C        Characteristics of the Pastor:

1         Not by constraint.

2         Not for fame or fortune.

3         Ready mind.

4         Not as lords.

D        Heb 13:17.

E        You can learn a lot about the ministry of a pastor by studying the work of a shepherd.

F        Jesus referred to himself on many occasions as a shepherd.

1         John 10:11.

2         1 Peter 2:25.

3         1 Peter 5:4.




 

VI       Teacher

A        The Greek for this word is also translated, master, instructor, doctor.

Four Fold Ministry

I               Qualification for four fold ministers:

A        Acts 6:2-3

1         Of honest report.

2         Full of the Holy Ghost.

3         Full of Wisdom.

B        Titus 1:4-11:

1         Blameless.

2        Husband of one wife.

3         Having faithful children.

II        Elders

A     1 Tim 3:1- The office of a bishop (Greek "episkopos" translated bishop,

overseer, or preaching elder).

B.       Acts 14:23.

C       Elders in the Old Testament

D. All pastors are elders but not all elders are

    Pastors

   

E.       1 Tim 5:17-19.

F.      Acts 20:17.

G.       James 5:14.

III  Deacons

A        This motive gift seeks to reveal truth in the word of God.

VI       Exhortation

A       This word means to stimulate faith, they are motivated to see people grow.

B        The exorter will often use everyday incidents.

C        Characteristics

D        Examples:

1         Acts 13:13.

2         Acts 15:36-39.

3         Acts 11:25-26.

VII  Giving

A        This person is motivated to give into the ministry.

B        Characteristics

C        These are the easiest people to deceive because of their nature to give.

VIII Ruler

A        One who stands in front of others.

B        Characteristics

C        Example

1           Neh 1:3-4.

2           Neh 2:17.

IX Mercy

A        Mercy will meet needs.

B        Difference between grace and mercy. C        Characteristics.

D        Example:

1         Luke 10:30-35.
